Old Tripoli (Ṭrāblos, in Arabic) souk, Lebanon; interior view, looking out.
It is long and dark and seems to continue forever. I will always remember the smell...a pungent mixture of sewage (being below street-level), animals, raw meat (from the open-air butchers), produce, baked sweets, animals, stagnant water & mud (from the rain while I was there) and body odor. Congested with people, this tiny alleyway souk is the hub of daily life. A wonderful memory. :)
