My friends and I visited White Sands briefly in Spring 1998, during a university-sponsored hiking/camping trip in New Mexico. We spent hours rolling about in the sand, leaping off dunes, and taking numerous absurd photos... sadly, I'm in Kyrgyzstan and all those photos are at home in the US, somewhere....

We arrived in White Sands and were told the park was closed to cars. A recent heavy rain had washed the roads out. We could still drive in partway, and walk the rest of it. The rain had left pools of water in all the flat areas; they created perfectly calm mirrors which made this quiet and surreal landscape that much more magical.
