One of the murals on Balmy Avenue in the Mission District of San Francisco. The group Precita Eyes is responsible for many of the dazzling murals in this neighborhood.
This tiny alley in San Francisco's Mission District has been a focal point for local street muralists since the 1970s. Balmy Alley runs parallel to Treat Ave and Harrison Street between 24th & 25th streets, and today it is covered with more than a dozen murals — many of which have political themes. Bring a camera if you visit, because this is one of the most colorful things to see in one of the most colorful neighborhoods in San Francisco. Access is very simple: Just take BART to 24th Street Station, and walk east a few blocks. Turn right on Balmy just past Folsom Street.
