What ended up really selling me on the De Young was James Turell's Three Gems. Its a little place, tucked away in the sculpture garden. It's easy to miss. It's a little room down a tunnel, a half sphere tucked into a mound. A hole up top open to the sky. A sun patch traverses around the walls. You can watch the clouds go by. People come in, come out. If you want to have a conversation, you get them under the skylight and sing and declaim. Its nothing to the listener, but brilliant to the singer.
