For a good number of years in the late 40s and early 50s There was an atomic testing range in sight of Las Vegas. Many of the casinos had mushroom cloud viewing platforms on their roofs.
The Atomic Testing Museum in Vegas was put together by the Smithsonian, and is incredibly well designed. It traces the history of the bomb development and subsequent testing.
