Place to see: New Germany, Maryland, New Germany, Maryland, United States

About this place:

Beautiful mountainous western Maryland. This area west of Cumberland, and close to the West Virginia border has some of the most beautiful scenery Maryland has to offer. Nearby this small town are several state parks, trails for hiking, biking, skiing, and snow mobiling. Deep Creek Lake isn't far for those seeking water sports and fishing. Small camping stores and mom and pop eateries offer a great western Maryland experience.

My visit to New Germany, Maryland in the fall of 2007 was incredible. My friend and I stayed at Big Run State Park, and camped for 3 nights near a small stream leading to the Savage River Reservoir. It rained almost constantly until our last day there but that didn't stop us from having a great time. We hiked uphill 6.5 miles, crossing the rushing stream about 12 times, and biked back down to our campsite on the mountain roads winding through a colorful autumn forest. I would recommend this location to any outdoor enthusiast.
