Grayson Highlands is located in southwestern Virginia. This park is located near the highest point of Virginia, Mount Rogers. The weather at Grayson Highlands can be drastically different than the weather below in the valleys. The Appalachian Trail goes through this state park and can take you to nearby Mount Rogers. Many other hiking, biking, and horse trails are located throughout the park. The park offers picnicking and camping, and a camp store and visitor center are on the property. I would recommend exploring some of the hiking trails which can lead you to hidden waterfalls, spectacular overlooks, and wildlife! Once hiking Massie Gap keep your eyes open for the wild ponies that wander this area! The tops of the mountains in this area flatten out and make the hike easier. Large boulders and small trees make this area seem quite surreal.
