Place to see: Boqueria, Barcelona, Spain

I love the peripheral stuff of market life almost as much as the glossy and delicious food - the packing cases piled up, the tools waiting to sweep away the mess and here, the teetering egg cartons with the cardboard boxes with air holes (I wonder what was in them?) and the black plastic trays.

About this place:

The Boqueria market (also known as Mercat de San Josep) just off Las Ramblas, is one of the most famous markets in Barcelona Spain. It is a wonderful mix of goods, voices, scents that absolutely deserve a visit.

When I was in Barcelona recently for the massive GSMA World Congress it was a wonderful escape to get to the Boqueria for lunch at the fantastic Universal Cafe. Just a short Metro ride from the mad world of mobile communications saw me perched at the bar with a plate of pan fried mixed wild mushrooms in front of me. Along with a chilled glass of white, some grilled vegetables, some octopus and far too much bread and garlic. Delicious. Three times out of five lunches isn't a bad recommendations!
