The male resplendent quetzal has long primary feathers that appear to be tail feathers. It has been described as the most beautiful bird in the Americas and extends from Panama to Mexico.
The Quetzal Education Research Center, QERC, is in San Gerardo de Dota, Costa Rica. It is at 2000 meteres in the Talamanca cloud forest along the Rio Savegre. It is also in the nesting area for the resplendent quetzal.
