Vaisakhi festival, Golden Temple

Vaisakhi festival, Golden Temple

Vaisakhi is one of the most important Sikh religious festivals, commemorating the tenth Guru's creation of the order of holy soldiers that would defend Sikhism against its enemies. Celebrations culminate with a large parade through the city as the Sikh Scripture (Guru Granth Sahib) and holy relics are carried in procession (seen in the bus).

About this place:

Construction on the Golden Temple, or Harmandir Sahib, began in 1588 by the fourth Guru of Sikhism. It's surrounded by the Sarovar, a holy lake consisting of "Amrit" or Immortal Nectar, which is considered beneficial to swim in. Sikh pilgrims come from around the world to pray there, though members of any religion are welcome to visit, eat and stay in the nearby bunkhouses for no cost.
