Founded in 1963, the Guthrie Theater is one of the premier centers for the performing arts in the United States. In 2006, the theater moved to its new Jean Nouvel designed facility, located directly on the Mississippi river. Containing three stages, including the McGuire Proscenium, Dowling Studio and the Guthrie's signature Wurtele Thrust Stage, the theater plays host to a wide variety of productions throughout the year.
More than just a theater however, the Guthrie is very much a public building and contains restaurants, cocktail lounges and several stunning views of the riverfront and downtown Minneapolis. Not to be missed among these, is the view from the Endless Bridge, which provides an incredible panorama of the Mississippi river and the historic Mill District.
