Boryeong Mud Festival, Daecheon Beach

Boryeong Mud Festival, Daecheon Beach

The Boryeong Mud Festival is held annually on the shore of Daecheon Beach. It provides an excellent opportunity for Koreans and foreigners alike to wallow in the mud!

About this place:

Located on the western shore of the South Korean peninsula, Daecheon Beach is a beautiful spot for swimming... AND it is home to the annual Boryeong Mud Festival (http://www.worknplay.co.kr/buryeongsites/buryeong.html), which is held for two weeks every July.

In July 2007, my friend Rob and I spent an absurd weekend at the annual Boryeong Mud Festival, held on Daecheon Beach in South Korea. The entire stretch of Daecheon Beach was packed with tourists, and there were probably more foreign tourists than Koreans. Nearly everyone was both entirely covered in mud and thoroughly intoxicated. We had expected something along the lines of mud baths... imagine our surprise when we found buckets of mud and accompanying paintbrushes!
