Taken from the pedestrian bridge joining Hanshin and JR.
Umeda (sometimes more accurately reffered as "Kita ku" meaning North district) is a very active district in the north part of Osaka city, only beaten by Namba (south district) for its night life. It buzzes the most during daylight, comprising many company offices, shopping centers and restaurants. As in many other cities of Japan, restaurants and shops are the most concentrated inside and around train stations. Umeda contains JR, Hankyu and Hanshin train terminals very close together, which makes it an extremely dense and active urban knot, even by japanese standards.
