Cathedral of Our Lady of Smolensk
Built in the 16th century, this cathedral is the most famous of the many churches located inside the Novodevichy Monastery.

The Novodevichy Monastery was founded in 1524. Novodevichy translates as "new maiden", and over the centuries, this monastery was home to numerous royal women - many of whom were sequestered there against their wills. The monastery contains a variety of beautiful churches and cathedrals, and is one of the most scenic sites of Moscow. (It is also located directly next door to the Novodevichy Cemetery.)
