Estancia Harberton

View of some of the buildings at the estancia. In the distance is the Acatushún Museum.

About this place:

Estancia Harberton, on the Beagle Channel in Argentina. The estancia (ranch) was founded by Thomas Bridges, an Englishman who came to the region, first working as a missionary later as a rancher. His descendants continue to run the ranch, and have now added some tourist attractions and amenities. You can get a boat to visit a penguin rookery, eat at their small restaurant, or visit the Acatushún Museum, which holds a collection of bones of birds and marine mammals (http://www.acatushun.com). Visits to the museum are guided by college interns from all over the world who are spending a semester working there, and are extremely enthusiastic.
