Road to the Top

Climbing Sand Dunes is always harder than you want it to be, although it is definitely worth it for the fun to be had in leaping down them. The Dunes at Mesquite Flats in Death Valley are stunning, especially in the evening light, and we made our way to the top of this one.

On the way home from our California road trip, Jennifer and I decided to spend a couple of days in Death Valley. We left the high country of Yosemite, the eastern entrance had just re-opened after winter, and traveled to the lowest & hottest place in N. America. Our first morning we woke early and headed for the sand dunes while the weather was still cool. Romping through the dunes, taking pictures, gave us both a healthy perspective on the harsh & severe environment. A little while after the sun rose, the temperature was rising above 100, time to seek shelter.
