Warm Sunday afternoons are just perfect for takin a little break. These two loved soaking up the sunshine and relaxing in the light fog that rolled in and out.
Driving South through the dense, wet Avenue Of The Giants my wife and I cut west to Hwy 1 to start the coastal leg of our big California road trip. After winding through the first twentysomething miles of steep switchback roads up and over the mountains, we saw our first visions of the Pacific! Monstrous rock formations, desolate beaches and a beautiful setting sun greeted us as we pulled up to Westport, California - population 200.
We ended up staying at DeHaven's mainly because it was the only thing available, but the place (and Westport itself) became a highlight of our trip. Nothing else on our trip beat sleeping with the scent of the saltwater breeze, while being safely tucked into our King-sized, feather-topped bed.
The next morning the innkeepers cooked us a wonderful breakfast and we were on our way.
We would have enjoyed the hilltop hot tub or the horses and other animals kept on the farm if we had more time.
