Toronto's West Queen West -- a stretch of Queen Street from about Bathurst Street west to Dufferin -- is home to many clothing boutiques, many featuring Canadian designers.
West Queen West is the name locals have given the stretch of Queen Street running from just east of Trinity-Bellwoods Park west to Dufferin Street, where the old village of Parkdale begins. Home first to the city's outlying mental hospital (today part of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health), then to Irish immigrants in the late 19th century, and more recently to those from the Ukraine and Portugal, the area around West Queen West is now also home to Asian immigrants and to many students, artists and young professionals. Today it is a vibrant district with a variety of restaurants and bars, independent clothing and design boutiques, and art and photography galleries, anchored by the Museum of Canadian Contemporary Art (MOCCA) and the Drake and Gladstone hotels.
