Place to see: Kaieteur Falls, Georgetown, Guyana

Kaieteur Falls

Kaieteur Falls

The highest single-drop falls in the world, Kaieteur Falls is located in Guyana, in the heart of the Amazon Basin.

About this place:

Kaieteur Falls is widely recognized as the highest single-drop waterfall in the world -- although some argue that that distinction belongs to Angel Falls in Venezuela. Either way, it's a gorgeous spectacle, and well-worth seeing if you're up for an Amazon rainforest adventure.

You can reach Kaieteur either by jet boat, or via a short flight from the Ogle airstrip, just east of Georgetown. Our friendly guide Chico walked us around to several different vantage points, each more impressive than the last.

Of course the falls are more full and powerful in the wet season, but going during the dry season allows for closer access to the falls.
