The Death Valley Ranch in Death Valley National Park, also known as Scotty's Castle.
A beautiful spanish villa in hills of Death Valley National Park. Scotty was a local prospector who conned Albert Johnson into investing in his mine. Once there, though Johnson, like the area and he and his wife decided to build a winter home there. The castle is a collection of towers, balconies, and courtyards. It feels a little like a mirage of an oasis as you come up out of the searingly hot desert basin.
There are daily tours of the castle that take you inside the house or you can just wander the outside and grounds for free.
