The Best Western Atlantic Beach Resort used to be called The Lucerne Hotel, an International Modern jewel designed in 1958 by architect Morris Lapidus. Lapidus was partially responsible for the resurgence of Miami Beach in the 1950s when he created the Fontainebleau, Eden Roc and then transformed Lincoln Road into a pedestrian mall in 1960.

While this hotel may have changed names and owners over the years, it has managed to retain most of its overall charm. Though, as with most of the buildings from this era, we don't appreciate it because the impact has been dulled over time and what once looked like the design of the future, now looks retro.

Most of the decor and furnishings have been "updated" but if you search, you can find a few lingering clues to its once luxurious past.
