Volcan Tungurahua smokes in the background. Local girl with Willy (bottom right), who is an outdoor guide in Banos.
Banos is where Ecuadorians go to relax. Banos means ‘baths’ which refers to their thermal springs that very popular with locals and tourists. The elevation is much easier on the lungs, but the views are still spectacular. Because of this, Banos is ideal for hiking, biking, horse riding and river-rafting. The local volcano Tungurahua (Little Hell) erupted in 1999 and still puffs smoke today, but Banos has fully recovered.
