Rail Watchers

Children eye Copper Canyon railway passengers while their mothers peddle baskets and tortillas, west of Chihuahua, Mexico.

About this place:

Located in the Sierra de Tarahumara, Copper Canyon - or the Barranca del Cobre - is said to be one of five canyons in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico, which are deeper and larger than the Grand Canyon in Colorado. A rail passenger through the canyon will still meet Indians living in modified cliff dwellings, pass men jogging up mountainsides with 20 foot logs on their backs, and have the opportunity to stay in tiny accommodations where the power generator is only cranked on a few hours a day.
