Sunset and sunrise are great times to see wildlife on the Preserve.
The Cosumnes River Preserve is located between Sacramento and Stockton, in the heart of Northern California's lush Central Valley. It encompasses more than 46,000 acres.
The Cosumnes River is quite small (80 miles) but it is the only remaining unregulated river on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevadas.
Many types of flora and fauna can be seen along the trails through the preserve. More than 250 bird species, alone. We took the 3 mile walk, which was flat and easy to do. There is a shorter walk, if 3 miles seems too much. The trails are well-marked and maps are available, which provide information about many points of interest.
This is definitely an area for families, bird watchers and photographers to experience a wild and untamed wildlife area in the heart of California.
