Fira from the Cruise Ship

Fira from the Cruise Ship

A view of the village of Fira from the cruise ship. The long winding pathway can be seen zigzagging its way up the steep cliff face.

About this place:

The idyllic village of Fira is the capital of the island of Santorini, perched 260 meters above the caldera. Santorini (also known as Thera or Thira) is a circular archipelago of volcanic islands in the Aegean Sea that was formed after a massive volcanic eruption 3500 years ago during the Minoan civilization. This latest eruption caused the volcano to collapse in on itself, creating the expansive sea-filled caldera that exists today.
