Signoria Square (Piazza della Signoria) is the center of Florentine life. It is surrounded by art and important buildings such as: Palazzo Vecchio, the Loggia dei Lanzi (an open-air art gallery), Gli Uffizzi (the Offices which contain a rich collection of masterpieces), Tribunale della Mercanzia, Palazzo Uguccioni, and Palazzo delle Assicurazioni Generali.
Some famous statues in Signoria Square are: the copy of Michelangelo's David, Hercules and Cacus, Neptune's Fountain, Perseo and Medusa and other famous statues found in the Loggia dei Lanzi.
The ancient 13th century rectangular tower (seen in the photo) is part of the Old Palace (Palazzo Vecchio) and was named after the architect who designed it, Arnolfo di Cambio. It contains two small cells and is 94 metres high. It's a reference point for many tourists who visit Florence.
