Some of the more established shops in the Catania fish market are built right into the lava-rock arches of the city's architecture.
Every morning, Sicilian fishermen bring their fresh -- sometimes still breathing -- catch to the fish market in Catania, in a maze of small streets and squares just around the corner from the Cathedral. You'll know the swordfish by the swordfish heads on display next to them. The sea urchin men will cut the urchins so you can eat them on the spot. And if seafood isn't on your menu, you can pick out a lamb, some greens, or a kilo of juicy blood oranges.
