Chambers Bay Golf Course was built on the site of a gravel quarry which provided top quality gravel for concrete construction for almost 100 years. The structures next to the golf course are remnants of huge storage bins for mined gravel.

A publicly-owned facility, the design of this walking-only course allows non-golfers a hiking trail through a stunning coastal setting, among windswept dunes and native fescue grasses.     I do not play golf, but I love visiting Chambers Bay Golf Course. There is a public hiking trail through the links. On my walks I frequently see American Bald Eagles soaring or perching overhead. The views from the trails are astounding, combining close-up views of the waters of Puget Sound and stunning views of the majestic Olympic Mountains. The trails undulate through native grasses and sand dunes, and there are always tugs, barges, fishing boats, sail boats, yachts and ferries to watch if you get tired of walking or watching the golfers.
