American Bison, NW Trek
American Bison are the largest land mammals in North America. These herd animals are no longer considered wild, but are classified as domesticated because they reside primarily in zoos, wilkdlife parks, ranches and similar facilities.
About this place:
Northwest Trek is a publicly-owned wildlife park, part of Tacoma, Washington's park system, located about 35 miles southeast of Tacoma, or 55 miles south of Seattle, Washington near Mount Rainier National Park. The 723-acre park features bighorn sheep, deer, Roosevelt elk, woodland caribou, mountain goats, bison and more up close from comfortable trams in the animals' free-roaming area. Grizzlies, black bears, wolves, bobcats, lynx, cougars, owls, eagles and wetland animals can be seen in large natural exhibits.
Northwest Trek is open at 9:30am daily mid-February through October, Friday-Sunday November through mid-February and selected holidays. There is plenty of parking, with a gift shop and cafe on site. Picnics are allowed, but not barbecues. No pets are allowed in the park. Admission costs vary by age, between $6 and $15, with military, AAA and county residents' discounts.
