Paro Rinpung Dzong

Rinpung Dzong houses the Paro monastic school and civil administrators. Up above sits Ta Dzong, originally built as a watchtower, but now housing the national museum.

About this place:

Paro Rinpung Dzong was built in the mid 17th century to protect against invasion by Tibet. Dzongs originally served three purposes: fortress, local administrative center, and monastery. The great Paro Tsechu (festival) is held here every spring.
