Place to eat: Le Relais de Venise, Barcelona, Spain

About this place:

Don't expect a menu here—the only choice you'll have is rare, medium or well done. Steak frites are the order of the day at Le Relais de Venise, and though they do just this one thing, they do it extremely, unbelievably well. A salad will come your way first, and then a luscious meal of succulent steak and crispy, thin frites. The béarnaise sauce is to-die-for. The best part of Le Relais: your server dishes out only half your steak and half your frites at once, keeping the other half warm on a heated tray nearby—which ensures that the second half of your meal is as amazing as the first. Dinner for two, with a bottle of wine, comes to around €60.

Le Relais de Venise was right down the street from our apartment in Barcelona; and we dropped in for a meal whenever we craved a perfectly cooked steak and crispy frites. We celebrated Valentine's Day here just two weeks after we got engaged, and I'll always associate this restaurant with this life-changing time: living abroad, making a home near La Pedrera, spending those first few weeks together as an officially committed pair. We first discovered Le Relais de Venise in London, and we're determined to hit the Paris one to complete the trifecta one day.
