Inside a Navajo Hogan

Inside a Navajo Hogan

The hogan is a sacred home for the Diné (Navajo) people who practice traditional religion. Every family -- even if they live most of the time in a newer home -- must have the traditional hogan for ceremonies, and to keep themselves in balance.

About this place:

Navajo National Monument preserves three spectacular cliff dwellings located in the Navajo Nation in Northern Arizona. It preserves three of the most intact cliff dwellings of the ancestral puebloan people. The Navajo people who live here today call these ancient ones Anasazi. The monument is high on the Shonto Plateau, overlooking the Tsegi Canyon system.
