Place to see: Park Guell, Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain

Parco Guell

Parco Guell

From the top terrace of Parco Guell you can embrace with your view all of Barcelona...as far as the Meditertanean sea! Probably Gaudì knew about that...that's why he designed so much of seating places up there...to give visitors and residents the time to seat, look the horizon and think, meditate, relax....dream!

About this place:

Gaudi's Park Guell:

Between twin staircases at the park’s entrance sits the famous lizard. Climb the stairs and you find yourself in an open-air square overlooking the city. Jujol tiled the bench that surrounds the square using handmade ceramics and even added color and graffiti (such as crosses, prayers, and his own signature) to many of the tiles before re-firing them. Beyond the square is the “Hall of a Hundred Columns” which holds spectacular overhead mosaics and, in fact, only 86 columns.

One of my favorite spots in Barcelona is Park Güell. Unfortunately, its colorful mosaics and beautiful view make it everyone else’s favorite spot. If you can, go at an off time of the week, pack your journal and a snack, and you may be able to find some (relative) solitude on a tiled bench overlooking the city.
