In the town of Chalkidiki (also spelled Halkidiki), right outside of Thessaloniki, Greece, is a perfect spot to get away. You won't find any ruins or ancient architecture, but the beaches are peaceful and surrounding areas pleasant. Each morning that we were there a group of Greek women in black matching bathing suits and bathing caps would run down the cobblestone road, crest the hill, and splash into the ocean together.
