In the hills outside Plovdiv, Bulgaria there are a number of small towns, ruins, and old castles. This one, made of stone and left unguarded at the end of a remote road near a picnic site, was shown to us by a Bulgarian host. There are also a number of fantastic monasteries in the area, all of which are built in a similar style of stonework, although with many more elaborate decorations.
