Europe was in the grips of an historic heat wave while I was in Barcelona. The cool shade in the inner courtyard of a cathedral sheltered me from the brutal mid-day sun and provided a respite from the bustling streets.
In Barcelona, as in the rest of Spain, there are Catholic cathedrals, monasteries and churches on nearly every block. Many of them have unassuming entrances that lead into lush and peaceful inner courtyards. Slip into one for a few moments of reflection and recharge yourself for the rest of your busy day.
