Cha Ca is one of Hanoi's most famous dishes. It consists of fish slices, greens, and peanuts sauteed over a charcoal fire on your table. Then you spoon some over fresh rice noodles and wash it down with some ice-cold local beer. Cha Ca La Vong is "the" place to go for this traditional dish, but leave your vegan or fish-hating friends at home as this is a one-dish restaurant. Cha Ca La Vong has been in the family for five generations and the place is packed with locals - always a good sign! Also, watch out for imposters - there are several Cha Ca places on this street, it is "Cha Ca" street afterall, but one particularly wily place has put the number "14" on its sign to try and trick customers to the wrong address!
