We stopped at this roadside market after a long, dusty five hour drive from Nairobi to Kabernet. It was clearly a market intended for locals, but we had just pulled over to present a gift of cash to the local water committee and passed this stand. We simply offered to give them Polaroids of themselves, knowing many had none. We yearn for pictures because of the ways others are different from us, but they yearn for pictures because of the ways they are the same as we are. Children deserve pictures of mothers, mothers of children, and family of family.
