Mount Moriah is just one of thousands of rural white churches across the landscape of America whose cemetery becomes the final resting place for countless loved ones. I was driving along a rural road in North Carolina, slightly lost actually, and this church had a luminous rose hue from the nearing sunset. I pulled over to take a picture, remembering that sunset is a traditional image across cultures for the end of life and death. It is a gentle image that softens the impending darkness that wil soon envelop this little church yard and all the others.
