In the sea of chain restaurants and highway interchanges, Jorg's Cafe Vienna is a standout. It's located in Plano, a suburb of Dallas best known for its conspicuous consumption and a late 90s heroine problem. But Jorg's is in middle-class East Plano, also called Downtown Plano, an area of Dallas that's doing everything right. The historic brick-paved neighborhood features restaurants, bars, art galleries, boutiques, and even a light rail into the heart of Dallas.
Jorg's Cafe Vienna is a destination in and of itself. The atmosphere is bright and jovial, with red brick walls and reconverted wood floors inside and a large beer garden outside. The owners and staff are friendly, welcoming the neighborhood in as regulars. And then there's the food: classic Austrian food prepared with care. My favorite dish is "Gitti’s Lacknergasse Schnitzel: Gitti’s Cuisine, sautéed Pork or Chicken Cutlets served with a Cream Sauce infused with a hint of Curry, with Austrian Spätzle and Red Cabbage." The hint of curry has a way of making the dish deliciously reminiscent of french toast. Comfort ethnic food, highly recommend.
