The Dock at Miles Wine Cellars, Seneca Lake, New York, USA

Dock your boat along Seneca Lake and walk up a hill lined with wildflowers to find Miles Wine Cellars. Located in a Historic Greek Revival white House and it is even haunted.

About this place:

The New York Finger Lakes is an area of New York State just above Ithaca, which is home to winding scenic roads, tranquil lakes and known as the East Coast's wine country. The majority of the regions best wineries are located along three of the areas larger lakes, Cayuga, Seneca and Keuka Lakes. Spend your days visiting wineries and local farmland, hike amazing national parks, spot the unique white deer, cruise on the lake or just relax on the dock at your quaint bed and breakfast or castle along the lake, with someone special while sharing that bottle of Riesling that you both discovered that day.

The "It" place to stay for lakeside luxury on Seneca Lake is Belhurst Castle. Located in the city of Geneva, Belhurst was built in the 1880's and has a complimentary spigot for castle guests. Three wineries you must visit are Miles Wine Cellars located in a historical greek revival white house... and its haunted. The award winning Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard, with its intimate tasting room, I bought a Riesling plant which I planted back in Brooklyn. There is also Four Chimneys, the first organic winery. Then hike Watkins Glens State Park, the Grand Canyon of the Finger Lakes.

Keuka Lake is shaped like a Y and its name means friendly Lake. Here there is a strong Amish influence. Be sure to stop by the Windmill farm and craft market for Amish and Mennonite goods and try the shoefly pie. Visit the town of Hammondsport on your way to Dr.Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars. The winery's location is breathtaking, situated on a sunny mountainside covered by vineyards, sloping down to beautiful Keuka Lake. This winery is probably one of the finest and has the location for great red wines. Try the Gewurztraminer, Rkatsitelli and the Cabernet Franc.

While at Cayuga Lake we drove to Ithaca and stopped at Simeons, where we tried the Cayuga burger and a bottle of Ithaca Ale. We stayed at the Driftwood Inn located directly on Cayuga Lake. It was so peaceful. They had a back porch overlooking the lake and the shore was covered with colorful rocks and shells. For dinner we walked up the road to the Sheldrake Point winery and ate in the vineyard. The next day we hiked Taughannock Falls State Park which has a waterfall taller than Niagara Falls. We saw beautiful wildflowers everywhere and white deer.
