Place to eat: Pappy and Harriet's, Pioneertown, California, United States

About this place:

Billed as the best Honky Tonk west of the Mississippi, Pappy and Harriets is sort of the center of the action in Pioneertown. Built in the mid 40s, Pioneertown was a place for western movie film stars to live and make movies. The town is sort of a weird combination old west movie set and part collection of roadhouses.

A couple of years ago, my wife and I heard that Calexico was playing here. It seemed like the most ideal of locations to see them as it was described to me as a sort of dirt floored honky tonk that would be packed with people from all over, the kind of place you would expect to hear Calexico sing about. The event did not disappoint, they rocked the house and the barbque was fantastic.
