Sunset came too quickly over the endless prairies of South Dakota's Badlands National Park, and I had to scramble to put up my tent in the final minutes of this late July day. $15 vehicle entry fee.
When parts of the South Dakota prairie washes away, you are left with a landscape that resembles the moon. Layer upon layer of the region's history are revealed in sand and clay before ending in high, rugged peaks, nearly impassable peaks. A spectacle of constant erosion and a perfect place to camp and hike.
