Despite the picture-perfect weather, it was actually blisteringly cold at the top of the bridge, where the wind-chill factor is much more pronounced than at sea-level. But the cold didn't spoil the fun one bit.

About this place:

The Golden Gate Bridge is a world-famous suspension bridge completed in 1937. It is part of US 101, and it connects the City of San Francisco to Marin County and the rest of the northern California coast.

The natural air conditioning system that San Francisco's fog provides, engulfs the Golden Gate bridge most afternoons, providing very dramitic temperature changes, and leaving the tourists running to the shops to buy more clothes. Next time in San Francisco, watch how many people are wearing souvineer sweatshirts and jackets.

The official color of the Golden Gate Bridge is International Orange.

My wife and I were married on the Golden Gate Bridge June 10, 2000. My wife saw a commercial where a couple got married atop the Empire State and thought, why not the Golden Gate? The 2 dozen in the wedding party just parked on the Marin side, and walked to the closest tower. The tower sheltered us from the wind, and noise of the car, and by some miracle it was a bright, sunshiney day. Music was played, words were said, bubbles were blown. Now, every time I cross the bridge, I remember that day.

After a really slow drive to from Vancouver to Los Angeles, we decided to speed back in one stretch. We left LA at 11:30pm to arrive in SF just after 4 am. What do you do in SF at 4 am? Well... Sebastian and I decided to enjoy the quiet and snap some pictures. After hanging out downtown, we decided to head over Golden Gate Bridge and try to capture some pictures of the bridge as the sun was coming up. Unfortunately, fog did not co-operate, but it was one of the most spectacular moments of the trip!

This may seem obvious to the locals - but as a visitor, it came as a complete surprise to me: The Golden Gate Bridge is loud!

If you visit in the summer months, chances are good you won't see much of the actual bridge, apart from a few bridge-like appendages emerging from a thick bank of fog. Luckily, though, the Golden Gate is rigged with foghorns that operate in poor visibility. And so, every few seconds, you'll be treated to deep baritone notes that help guide ships safely into the San Francisco Bay.
