Place to see: Downing Street Playground, New York City, New York, United States

About this place:

Something unexpected - completely made my day. This little playground is rather hidden - gated and very well kept. A group of older gentlemen were sitting outside of the park playing cards. I stopped to take a few pictures of the park and one of them showed me a series of bricks with names on them. One of the bricks had the name "The Original Tip" on it...and I was told this was an old 'gang' of boys back in the 50s or 60s that used to play there. It was such an amazing little glimpse into history - and the lives of others. Some of the names had been scratched out and I was told this was to display that individuals passing. I was fascinated to learn so much about things we simply walk by daily and don't even notice. Remarkable little park.
