Place to sleep: The Aerie, Napa, California, United States

Cantilevered

The outside looking in. This is where many people who get married here have the ceremony.

About this place:

Napa's most modern house. Designed by Helena Arahuete, the woman that took over John Lautner's practice, and worked with him on the Arrango residence in Acupulco.

The house is perched on a hill with views of the entire bay area. It can be reached by car on a fairly bumpy road, but anyone worth their salt will arrive by helicopter at the house's heli-pad.

It is mostly glass augmenting the incredible views, but its greatest feature is the indoor/outdoor cantilevered pool with remote controlled glass doors to seal it off from the outside.

Popular with weddings, it also makes an excellent weekend getaway with its proximity to the bay area. It is a bit spendy though, going for about $3,500 a night.
