Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world. This is a great place to take a tour or to rent a four-wheel drive and explore the island.
The Naval Museum at Karlskrona is really worth a visit. I was there for a conference in October, and the venue was one of the highlights of the trip.

Sun sets on the boathouse, which was once the site for large parties. It was built in 1926 and restored in the 1960's.
Sapelo Island is located off the coast of Georgia, roughly midway between Brunswick and Savannah. The few residents of the island are African American descendants of gullah/geechee African communities, brought to the island as slaves.
North Stradbroke Island is a 40 minute boat ride off the coast of Queensland, Australia. It is one of the world's largest sand islands.
Former prison island during the civil war. Now is a city park and houses several abandoned buiildings and other fun spots.
