  1. Cerro Gordo

    Often times referred to as the Bodie of southern California, Cerro Gordo was an incredibly wealthy mining town that helped fund the creation of the Los Angeles shipping trade. Now it is a bit difficult to get to on a pretty narrow dirt road that almost certainly requires 4 wheel drive to reach.

    This hostel is in a 15th century Anglo-Norman tower house that is the oldest hostel in Ireland. Opened in 1948, it is 8 miles outside of Kilkenny, and sleeps 52 visitors.
