Downtown Los Angeles is the central business district of Los Angeles, California, located close to the geographic center of the metropolitan area. Due to city planning of the 1950's and 1960's, the sprawling, multi-centered megacity is such that its downtown core is often considered just another district like Hollywood or Venice, even though it is home to the city and county governments and the region's tallest skyscrapers.
Downtown Los Angeles is currently undergoing a transformation, with many historic buildings being converted into lofts, several retail businesses and restaurants opening, and many new high-rise residential buildings being built.
