   Red Rock Canyon National Conservation area is located 17 miles and a world apart from its more famous neighbor, the Las Vegas Strip.

   This particular prickly pear is a deep purple, with yellow flowers. I took this facing the afternoon sun, and lowered the exposure for the glow.

   The Road to Burningman

   If you drive for approximately two hours northeast of Reno , Nevada one week before Labor Day you might see a few strange vehicles along the way. These "mutant vehicles" are headed to Burningman, a week-long event in the Black Rock Desert.

   This was a 25 minute exposure taken from the rim of the Grand Canyon well after dark. The full moon was rising behind me and provides all the illumination for this photo.
